Avoid traffic, skip the jams and hop on your bike to your local station. At West Midlands Railway we are committed in delivering cycle schemes across our networks so that 2760 cycles have a perfect place to be stored.

One of the locations to improve cycle facilities is at Yardley Wood Station, one of many locations targeted to have their current life expired equipment replaced with modern two-tiered cycle racking systems. As they say, out with the old and in with the new!

With new and enhanced CCTV and monitoring included as part of our smarter stations and Internet of Things (IoT) rollout, you can ensure that your bike is more secure than ever before.

At West Midlands Railway we are focused on driving sustainability with our sustainability agenda, which means, all our redundant equipment can be put to good use! After venturing out looking for a way in which we could reuse unwanted equipment, an enquiry was made to a local school to see if they were interested in having secure lockers for storage. Chilcote School in Hall Green was more than happy to accept the offer, so arrangements were made in collaboration with Transport for West Midlands to mobilise ex-cycle lockers to the school.

Deputy Headmaster, Mark Cross, commented ‘the uses for these lockers will help with the Schools storage of larger sports equipment including tournament goal nets. The School Facilities team are ply-lining the lockers and it is understood other Schools have already placed an interest should further lockers become available, as anticipated for other sites.’

With communities being the forefront of our operations, we are excited to see what the future holds as we look at bringing people together in the region. This one small gesture is a really great example of the work we at West Midlands Railway are doing with Transport for West Midlands.

With this in mind, let’s get on our bikes and get in lane for future investments!
