More about Villa Park

Famous in it’s own right as a historic venue in world football, Villa Park is the proud home of Aston Villa. The ground is an iconic centrepiece of Birmingham, offering Premier League football, atmospheric stadium tours, rock concerts, religious gatherings and much, much more.

Home to Villa since 1897, the venue has hosted World Cup and European Championship football, as well as more FA Cup semi-finals than any other stadium. It was originally part of a pleasure ground that consisted of a football and cricket pitch, athletics track and a small grandstand. Once Aston Villa moved in, a new main stand was built with open terracing on the remaining sides, holding around 40,000 people. Over the following decades the Stadium gradually increased in capacity, and in 1913 it lost its bowl shape as the cycling track was removed. This helped to bring fans closer to the pitch, and created a greater atmosphere. Plans were made to grow the Stadium to a staggering capacity of 130,000 but the First World War denied the expansion.

In recent times Villa Park has held host to top level Premier League football, and as the Club has gone from strength-to-strength they have developed plans of a world-class sporting venue and thriving community hub. This long-term vision for the ground will see its spectator capacity rise to over 50,000, while modernising the stadium to improve matchday experience and providing more community opportunities.

Tickets are available for Aston Villa weekend fixtures, as well as evening mid-week games, where you can watch the Villans dazzle in their iconic claret and blue kit. If you want to add to your matchday experience, or if you’re visiting the venue at any other time, why not explore the ground fully with a Villa Park Stadium Tour ? Walk in the footsteps of legends and take a seat in the state-of-the-art player’s dressing room. After that, picture the roar of the home crowd as you walk out of the tunnel and take the manager’s position on the bench. With so much to see, the tour is an unforgettable experience for any football fan.

On matchdays and during major events such as music concerts, you can find a selection of tasty stadium meals, including pies, hot dogs and chips. Kiosks and stalls can be found inside the ground, and also sell snacks and a range of drinks.
