There’s no need to leave your four-legged friend behind when you venture out this summer, give them a treat and take them out for a day of adventure, all starting with a train journey!
If you’re travelling with a dog, please remember to ensure they are kept on a lead at all times, unless they travel in style and are contained in their own basket. Other than that, you are pretty much ready to go!

Where can I travel by train with my pet?
Luckily, we have come up with some great places to visit across over 100 stations on the network, ranging from Shrewsbury to Rugeley, Lichfield to Hereford and Stratford upon Avon to the south, you’re spoiled for choice on where to plan your next day-trip with your pooch.
At the heart of our West Midlands Railway network is Birmingham. With three stations in the city centre, it is easy to reach from all directions. Take a stroll around one of the city’s many waterways or Cannon Hill Park which has an abundance of well-maintained walkways and trails that are perfect for your dog.
With all the walking you’re sure to build up an appetite so there are several dog-friendly restaurants including The Head of Steam pub that, along with a varied food menu, boasts 20 keg lines with a selection of rotating craft beers and 10 cask ale lines including beers and real cider - and no need to worry if you fancy trying a few as the train is taking you home!
If the hustle and bustle of the big city is too much for you or your pet, then why not visit the smaller city of Lichfield ? Trains from Birmingham New Street to Lichfield City take only 36 minutes and single tickets cost only £5.70.
Start your trip with a mooch around the ancient remains of a Roman settlement at English Heritage’s Wall Roman Site . With a number of information boards, you’re sure to learn some interesting facts and your pooch will enjoy being able to explore somewhere new with their family.
If you fancy a bit of retail therapy head to Curborough Farm , a small countryside shopping centre with a range of unique shops for all the family. The pet shop on site will certainly have your pooch drooling will all their yummy food and treats!
If you’re looking to spend the entire day away from home, then pick a route and hop on and off the train. With the cheapest tickets from just £9.00 one way and a travel time of just 45 minutes, why not travel from Birmingham New Street to Worcester . Once there, the National Trust’s Croome Park is a great place to walk. There are miles of different routes to discover temples, follies and also a beautiful lakeside. Then maybe have a spot of lunch at The Farriers Arms before jumping on a train for just one stop to Malvern.
In Malvern, there are lots of lovely walks and then head to Mac and Jac’s Cafe for a coffee and cake. Nestled at the foot of the beautiful Malvern Hills, two minutes’ walk from the theatre and shops, Mac and Jac’s is definitely not to be missed.
From Malvern continue your journey to the stunning city of Hereford . Have a quick stroll and take in the breathtaking views of one of the UK’s most famous cathedrals . Dogs are not allowed in the cathedral itself, but they are welcome in the close and in the Chapter House Garden where water bowls are provided. From here head to the Butter Market , a thriving indoor market with over 30 individual stalls offering something a little different. The cafe inside also welcomes dogs with open arms!
