The West Midlands Railway Customer and Communities Improvement Fund (CCIF) is now open
We’re very pleased to announce that our CCIF is now open and we’re accepting applications for West Midlands Community Project funding. It’s exciting because our CCIF is specifically to support projects in this region, and we’re looking for ideas that bring tangible benefits to our stations, our communities and our neighbourhoods, addressing regeneration challenges and tackling social needs.
So this is a chance for people along our routes to apply for a share of this unique fund, which, in its first year is estimated to be £1.7 million (subject to terms and approvals).
This is a substantial fund and although this is our CCIF’s first year, other Train Operating Companies have been managing similar funds for many years and we’ve seen the difference they can make.
We can’t wait to see what benefits our fund can bring to this wonderful region. It’s going to make a real impact at our stations and in your neighbourhoods and it’s now ‘open for business’.
How it works
If you are a charity, not-for-profit or social enterprise and have a community project that fits the criteria which could be completed between April 2020 and March 2021, then now is the time to send us your ideas and fill in your application form.
Every year for the next six years we’ll have a fund to distribute to local projects and each year a range of projects will be selected (at the final stage by the Department for Transport) with the overriding condition that every project must be completed within the year of delivery.
How to get involved
Perhaps the most exciting part of all of this is that the ideas for these projects come from the community. You are the people with knowledge of the challenges in our local areas and if you have an idea, or you’re already involved in something that you think fits the terms of the funding and the ethos of ‘for the community, BY the community’, then fill in our application form. It’s not a difficult process and there is helpful guidance included here. Then just send your application to us and fingers crossed, your innovative change-making project could be coming to life early next year.
Is your project eligible?
- Will it serve local communities?
- Will it be completed in a year?
- Is it designed to address areas of social need and create regeneration impact?
- Is it not for commercial gain?
- Are its costs in proportion with the social and regeneration outcomes it will provide?
- Are you based close to our WMR train line?
If you can answer ‘yes’ to all of these, then you’re in with a shout.
What to do next
You can apply for funding from now until 7th October, when applications will close for this year.
To apply, simply use the application form below. If you’d prefer a printed version, then drop an email to us at [email protected] with your address and postcode, and we’ll pop one in the post to you.
If you have questions, we have a downloadable Information Booklet below that will hopefully provide all the answers and includes information on the types of projects we’re looking for, who’s on the judging panel, and the project timelines.
Good luck and we can’t wait to read about your exciting community projects.
