The newly restored Soho House, in Handsworth Birmingham, the home of industrialist Matthew Boulton

Beautifully restored to reflect the tastes of the late Georgian period, Soho House was the home of Birmingham industrialist Matthew Boulton, who developed the steam engine in partnership with James Watt. Inside, there is a vast steam heated bath while the garden has been replanted from plans in the Boulton archive. Take the National Express West Midlands 74 bus service from Jewellery Quarter train station to the house.
