Shrewsbury Abbey

The historic building, founded in 1083, is famous for its literary associations which include the popular Cadfael mysteries written by Shropshire writer Ellis Peters and the war poems of local parishioner Wilfred Owen. The abbey is primarily a place of worship but the Gothic nave, abundant monuments and adjacent monastic ruins are also well worth a closer look.
