Chung Ying Cantonese
Searching the Instagram hashtag ‘#birminghamfood’ reveals Chung Ying Cantonese in China Town as a top contender. This family-run, award-winning, authentic Cantonese restaurant in Birmingham is just across from the bustling Arcadian Centre, and a stone’s throw away from the Hippodrome Theatre, but remains a bit of a secret spot. With 4.5-stars on TripAdvisor, it’s open until 9pm every night - but give yourselves lots of time as the menu is massive!!
Dishoom and Aluna
Other great options for dining are Dishoom in the City Centre or Aluna in The Mailbox. Both restaurants have 4.5-stars on TripAdvisor and gain excellent reviews. Dishoom is open until midnight every night (11pm on Sundays) and serves exquisite Indian street food. Whilst Aluna is open until 11pm every night, except Friday and Saturday when it is open until 1:30am. We recommend treating yourself to a cocktail or two at this waterfront location – it certainly is the perfect setting for their expert team of mixologists to conjure up some magical (and Instagrammable) masterpieces.
NQ64
For something completely different, our social searching has uncovered NQ64 , a neon splattered drinking den full of retro arcade games and classic consoles located in The Custard Factory. With 4-stars on TripAdvisor, this is the place to go if you’re out late at night - it’s open ’til 3am at weekends (but don’t forget to check those train times)! Combine playing games with your mates with enjoying craft beers or game-themed cocktails such as the Donkey Kong, Mad Max, or Pacs a Punch. There’s no doubt you’re set for an evening of fun.
Oko Sushi
Searching the Instagram hashtag ‘#birminghamfood’ reveals Oko Sushi in Brindley Place as a top candidate. The nearest station is Five Ways, but it is also only a short walk from Birmingham New Street or Snow Hill. OKO specialise in sushi, dim sum and sashimi, mixing the best vibrant colours, flavours and textures of traditional Japanese cuisine. It’s a great place to meet friends for drinks or a cocktail or two. With 4.5-stars on TripAdvisor, Oko won’t remain a secret for long!
