The Westfield Health British Transplant Games
West Midlands Railway are proud to be supporting this year’s British Transplant Games, which will be held in Birmingham from Thursday 2 August to Sunday 5 August 2018.
The Games will make use of several of the outstanding facilities across the city including the Symphony Hall, the ICC, Alexander Stadium and the University of Birmingham Sport and Fitness Centre.
Organised on behalf of Transplant Sport, the Games aim is to raise awareness of the need for organ donation, encourage transplant recipients to lead active lifestyles, and show appreciation for, and remember, donors and their families. The Games also increase awareness of The Anthony Nolan Trust and their need for blood stem cells and bone marrow donation.
The four-day event attracts around 1000 transplant athletes and more than 1500 supporters. Transplant survivors, including children as young as five, can compete in more than twenty sports.
The Games will also shine a light on the hard-work, dedication and talent of the doctors and nurses who work in hospitals across the region who bring hope to families and individuals from all over the UK undergoing transplant surgery, Birmingham performs more Transplants than anywhere else in Europe and recently celebrated its 5,000th Liver Transplant.
