Cross City Autumn Timetable

Our autumn timetable will run from Monday 15th October to Friday 7th December, which means some stations will have fewer trains on weekdays.

We do this because slippery rails make it more difficult for trains to stop safely and accelerate smoothly. This means our drivers have to apply the brakes much earlier (and pull away from stations more slowly), which can cause delays, particularly on the Cross City line where the stations are very close to each other. By removing stops at certain times, we can reduce delays and congestion, which keeps more people on the move through the slippery season.

But we’re doing it slightly different this year.

Following your feedback, we’ve improved the leaf fall timetable to make commuting easier than in previous years. If you travel into Birmingham in the morning, and home again in the evening, your timetable will be largely as normal.

At off-peak times (and in the quieter direction during the peak), some trains will still miss out stops to help keep the service running as smoothly as possible, but these are spread across the timetable, so you should never have to wait too long.

We’ve also decided to run a full Saturday service this year, as well as a normal timetable from Longbridge, 7 days a week. We’ll be closely monitoring how this works.
