More about The Hawthorns

Proud home of West Bromwich Albion F.C, The Hawthorns is a 26,000 seater stadium full of heritage. Visit the venue by train for exciting football, engaging stadium tours, events or even to play on the beautiful pitch.

The Hawthorns first opened in 1900, after being constructed in just four months. West Brom, or The Baggies as they are nicknamed, pride themselves on the traditions of their club, and have attempted to keep the original style and feel of the stadium through the years. Its all-time attendance record was set in 1937, with 64,815 fans watching. It continued to draw big crowds until the 1980’s, when attendance numbers dropped and the stadium was in need of refurbishment. The West Brom Stadium became an all-seater venue in 1990, and revolutionised the way stadiums ran in 2002, by introducing the Stilecard system and big screens in a widescreen format.

In the past few decades, West Brom have brought exciting football to The Hawthorns, competing in both the Premier League and Championship. Tickets are available for weekend fixtures, as well as mid-week evening games for whichever suits your schedule. The West Brom Stadium is 5 miles outside of Birmingham city centre, and is easy to reach, with a train station near The Hawthorns (called The Hawthorns Train Station), just a short walk away from the stadium.

If you are visiting with the family, or want to extend your matchday experience, why not take a Hawthorns Stadium Tour ? See behind the scenes and delve into the club’s history, as you are led around by engaging tour guides with encyclopedic knowledge of everything West Brom. Step into the players’ dressing room, then walk through the tunnel and onto the turf for an experience no fan could forget.
