West Midlands Railway: Passengers urged to check journeys ahead of industrial action

Passengers travelling with West Midlands Railway (WMR) are being urged to check their journeys ahead of industrial action in December.

Members from the ASLEF union have announced their intention to stage strike action on Sunday 3 December. No services will operate on any WMR route as a result.

Additionally, ASLEF members will stage action short of strike in the form of an overtime ban between Friday 1 December and Saturday 9 December. During this time timetable alterations will apply on some routes and services may be subject to short-notice cancellation. Other train operating companies will also be affected by the industrial action and passengers are being advised to check their journeys before travelling.

Jonny Wiseman, WMR customer experience director, said:

“It is disappointing that industrial action is continuing to affect passengers’ journeys in the lead up to the busy Christmas period.

“Passengers will need to use alternative modes of transport on Sunday 3 December as no services will be in operation on any route. I also urge passengers to check their journeys between Friday 1 December and Saturday 9 December as services may be subject to short-notice cancellation.

“Anyone holding a ticket for travel on a strike day can use their ticket on a different day or claim a full refund.”

The following timetable alterations will be in place between Friday 1 December and Saturday 9 December (excluding Sunday 3 December):

  • A rail replacement service will be in operation on the Elephant & Bear Line between Leamington Spa and Nuneaton
  • Fewer services will run between Birmingham and Hereford (via Worcester)
  • Fewer services will run between Birmingham and Shrewsbury
