West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway are offering complimentary travel to registered students attending the University of Birmingham Open Day on Saturday 19th October.
We expect around 13,500 students at the University of Birmingham Open Day, where approximately 50% will be travelling to the university by rail. For this reason, we are offering students who have registered to attend free travel on our network.
If you have already registered for the University of Birmingham Open day on Saturday 19th October 2019, you should have received your invitation from the university via email. If you haven’t, please contact the university directly to ask them to provide this.
On receiving your invitation email from the University of Birmingham, you should have found your complimentary e-voucher embedded into your invite. However, if you received a West Midlands Trains scratch card instead, provided again from the university, this is still valid on Saturday 19th October.
Please note that you will need to show your voucher to a member of our team to gain free travel on the day.
The voucher entitles you to free travel across both West Midland Trains companies, which includes West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway .
If you didn’t use one of our services at the beginning of your journey and need to change trains, there’s no need to worry; you can still use the voucher for the remainder of your journey if opting to travel with us at the end.
Our team will also be attending the open day with a travel advice stand located at the West Gate entrance to the University of Birmingham, which is just a one-minute walk from University station!

Any passengers claiming the free travel to the University of Birmingham Open Day are advised that to be eligible they must first register with the university and follow instructions to claim their complimentary day pass from West Midlands Railway staff in advance of travel, West Midlands Railway staff cannot allow free travel without the valid pass which will provided directly from the University of Birmingham Open Day registration email and is only valid for travel on Saturday 19th October 2019.
